Chasing the Light

There are often times where I am out walking my dog where I wish I had brought my camera. I got out of the habit of always having it on me because I found I wasn’t always living in the moment, rather through the viewfinder. That being said, there have been some frustrating times where the light was incredible or I saw an amazing bird or animal up close and I was camera-less.

Fortunately this particular walk was not one of those times.

I bundled Doug, my dog, into the car and set out with no particular destination in mind, as I often do. I knew I’d know where I wanted to go once out of the city. This occasion brought me to the bottom of Stanage Edge with an hour of daylight left at best.

As we made our way up the winding path towards the rocky edge, the setting sun burst through the clouds completely bathing the landscape in a rich orange hue. The colour was only intensified by the browning ferns and heather.

I frantically snapped away knowing that this would only be a fleeting moment. Fortunately Doug chose to actually sit patiently for once, rather than trying to sniff out any and every animal under the sun. Then just as quickly as it had appeared, the light made way for grey and rain and darkness.
