I recently shot on location in the Peak District for Own Way, to create some beautiful images showcasing their eco-friendly outdoor apparel designed for adventure-seekers and explorers.
For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed that satisfying feeling of spending time in nature hiking and exploring on the sort of day where it’s necessary to bundle yourself up in multiple layers of clothing. Where the weather leaves your cheeks and nose flushed with pink, to then return indoors to enjoy the warmth of a fire, a hot meal and a cosy evening. I was kindly invited by Another Place , The Lake, a hotel set on the picturesque banks of Ullswater in the Lake District, to come and experience just that.
There are often times where I am out walking my dog where I wish I had brought my camera. I got out of the habit of always having it on me because I found I wasn’t always living in the moment, rather through the viewfinder. That being said, there have been some frustrating times where the light was incredible or I saw an amazing bird or animal up close and I was camera-less.
The last time I was in the Scottish Highlands about ten years ago, it rained every day for a fortnight except for one. It was such a novelty to see the sun that we actually photographed a sliver of sunlight breaking through the heavy, grey clouds. When I headed up for a trip at the end of September I was expecting much of a muchness, but wasn’t the case at all.
